Theodore "Ted" Alton Elliott, 80, of Cape Girardeau, formerly of Sikeston, Missouri, passed away Thursday, June 9, 2022, at Saint Francis Medical Center.
He was born Feb. 10, 1942, in Sumiton, Alabama, to Roosevelt Elliott and Margaret Phillips Hill. He was raised by Hubert and Margaret Hill.
He served in the National Guard.
Ted was a former insurance and real estate broker and nursing home administrator for more than 50 years. When asked what his real job was in life, he would always say "I'm a cowboy."
He won the Sikeston Distinguished Service Award in 1971. He was a lifetime member and past president of the Optimist Club in Sikeston, served on the Southeast Missouri District Boy Scout Board, volunteered with S.C.O.R.E., consulted for the Small Business Association and was a former Sikeston Jaycee member, where he volunteered at the Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo for 48 years.
He loved his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family and friends, who lovingly knew him as "Tete" or "Tootie."
He attended LaCroix Church in Cape Girardeau.
Survivors include his wife of 25 years and caregiver the last three years, Nola Marylene Elliott of Cape Girardeau; daughter, Molly (Lucian) Zielinski of Cape Girardeau; son, John Dodgen of St. Charles, Missouri; son-in-law, Mark Hahs of Pocahontas; five grandchildren, Candless (Corey) Campbell of Cape Girardeau, Saylor (Clayton) Hardesty of Cape Girardeau, Zachary Zielinski of Springfield, Missouri and Matthew Hahs and Macey Hahs, both of Pocahontas; four great-grandchildren, Asher Campbell, McKinley Campbell, Laney Hardesty and Bo Hardesty, all of Cape Girardeau; sister, Alleen Eakers of Morehouse, Missouri; nephew, Corey (Shannon) McNew of Cape Girardeau; and three nieces, Kathy Hammon, Theresa Eakers and Wissie Hampton.
Ted was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Melinda Hahs; son-in-law, Doug Miller; two brothers, Tommy Elliott and Sonny Elliott; and a sister, Mary "Liz" Elizabeth McNew.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.
Funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Ron Watts officiating. Burial will be at Garden of Memories in Sikeston with the Rev. Tim Russell officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
