Ted Drum

Marvin C. "Ted" Drum, 94, of Jackson, passed away Sunday, Oct. 29, 2017, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Sept. 13, 1923, in Daisy to Arnold and Bertie Alice Brown Drum.

He and Vergie L. Sebastian were married Feb. 17, 1946, in Oswega, Kansas.

Ted was an honorably discharged veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during WWII, from Dec. 28, 1942, to Oct. 15, 1945. He was awarded a Bronze Star medal; four Bronze Stars for the campaigns of Ardennes, Rhineland, Central Europe and Northern France; and a Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster.

Ted worked 43 years in the cutting department, at the former International Shoe Factory in Jackson, retiring in 1985.

He was a member of Emanuel United Church of Christ and Altenthal-Joerns American Legion Post 158, both in Jackson, VFW Post 3838 in Cape Girardeau, the Coon Hunters Club in Daisy, and the DAV.

He was an avid outdoorsman. He especially enjoyed coon, bird, and turkey hunting, and fishing.

Loving survivors include his wife of 71 years, Vergie Drum of Jackson; a daughter, Diana Kay (Jeffery) Gibson of Rancho Murieta, California; a granddaughter, Chrystal (Stuart) Welch; and four great-grandchildren, Shawn Gibson, Cayman Welch, Amaryllis and Terrence Williams.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, Craig Gibson; his parents; and five siblings, Wilburn Drum, Wilson Drum, Arnold Drum, Jr., Alpha Brune and Alma Doggett.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson. There will be an American Legion Service at 7 p.m.

Funeral service is 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Revs. Joe Rowley and Sam Roethemeyer officiating. Interment will follow in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to Emanuel United Church of Christ in Jackson or Southeast Hospice.
