SIKESTON -- Sylvester Vinson, 74, of Shelby Township, Mich., died Tuesday, May 23, 2000, at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Utica, Mich.
He was born Jan. 23, 1926, at Wyatt, son of Vester and Maggie Green Vinson. He and Kathryn Housman were married on June 24, 1950.
Vinson lived in Michigan a number of years and was retired from Dodge Motor Co. He then moved to Sikeston and recently returned to Michigan. He was a member of Sikeston Eagles Club.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Clifford Vinson of Marion, Ill., James Vinson of Columbus, Tenn., Ricky Vinson of Algonac, Mich.; three daughters, Ethel Pringle of New Baltimore, Mich., Joyce Vinson of Franklin, Tenn., Karen Bowdich of Shelby Township; a brother, Roy Green of Wyatt; two sisters, Louise Roberts of Gainesville, Delores Summers of Wyatt; 18 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, a daughter, two brothers, and two sisters.
Friends may call at McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston from 2-8 p.m. today.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. The Rev. Bill Meeks will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery at Charleston, with military rites by Missouri Military Funeral Honors Program.
