BENTON -- Sylvester A. "Cotton" Felter, 82, of Benton, died Friday, Aug. 16, 1996, at his home. He was born July 17, 1914, at Kelso, son of Adam and Alvina Urhahn Felter. On Sept. 31, 1941, he married Mildred Colletta Schlitt at Oran. She survives. He was a self-employed farmer, a member of the St. Denis Catholic Church in Benton and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 6420 of Scott City...

BENTON -- Sylvester A. "Cotton" Felter, 82, of Benton, died Friday, Aug. 16, 1996, at his home.

He was born July 17, 1914, at Kelso, son of Adam and Alvina Urhahn Felter.

On Sept. 31, 1941, he married Mildred Colletta Schlitt at Oran. She survives.

He was a self-employed farmer, a member of the St. Denis Catholic Church in Benton and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 6420 of Scott City.

He is also survived by four sons, Robert Felter of Dallas, and Sylvester Jr., David and Joseph Felter, all of Benton; 10 daughters, Shirley Cook of Las Vegas, Linda Ressel and Doris Stubenrauch, both of Kelso, LaVerne Black of Jerome, Delores Ancell of Huntsville, Ala., Diane Galwith of Fulton, Yvonne Schwartz of Scott City, Susie Bohannon of Benton, Mary Reed of Aiken, S.C., and Carla Fellows of Jackson; two sisters, Leanna Essner of Cape Girardeau and Mildred Kiefer of New Hamburg; 31 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and four step-grandchildren.

A son, two daughters, two brothers and a sister preceded him in death.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Denis Catholic Church in Benton, with the Revs. Normand Varone and Thomas Kiefer officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Friends may call today at 4 p.m. at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Benton. Parish prayers will be held at 7 and a Knights of Columbus service will be held at 7:30.
