It is with deep sorrow that the family of Suzanne Gum Fisher announces her death, which occurred Wednesday, June 2, 2021, at Lutheran Home. She was surrounded by her dedicated family and devoted caregivers.
Suzanne was a longtime resident of Cape Girardeau.
Suzanne was born April 11, 1940, in Kennett, Missouri, and was raised in Kennett in a loving family. She enjoyed the simple pleasures of the postwar era, spending time outside riding bikes, playing sports and climbing trees and the excitement of rock and roll music. She was a high school cheerleader and played clarinet in the band.
She loved travel and lived and worked in many places, including Arkansas, Illinois and California. Her most fulfilling job was as an administrator in mental health.
She spent the last 22 years of her life in the Cape Girardeau area encircled by her daughter, Robyn, and her family and her brother, Robert, and his family. In addition to love for her family, Suzanne had an enthusiasm for swimming, music, boating and movies. She cherished her time with family and was always enthusiastic for outings, trips to the lake, beach and weddings, or any gathering of family and friends. Suzanne loved to have fun.
She is survived by daughters, Leah Gaye Wilder of Kansas City, Missouri, Teresa Suzanne Westbrook, and her husband, Kent of Dallas and Robyn Lea McCulley, and her husband, Terry of Ste. Genevieve, Missouri; and son, Charles John Wilder Jr., and his wife, Susan of Dallas. She is also survived by a brother, Robert Wayne Gum of Cape Girardeau.
She leaves nine adoring grandchildren, Jag Beveridge, Channing Nuyen and Dakota Beveridge; Misty Juola; Allison Cook, John Wilder III and Adam Wilder; and Jessica Laney and Mitchell McCulley. She leaves nine great-grandchildren, James Nuyen; Cole Witherington; Abigail, Caroline and Emma Cook; Winnie Laney; and Jayden, Bennett and Laney McCulley. Finally, she leaves many more family members and friends, including her best friend, Stella Russell, who will sadly miss her.
Suzanne was preceded in death by her parents, Faye and Robert Gum; husband, Lyn Fisher; sister in-law, Glenda Gum; and daughter, Lisa Faye Wilder.
Services will be private for the family.
