Susan Marie Ely, 58, of Cape Girardeau died Tuesday, June 9, 2015, at Southeast Hospital. She was born May 5, 1957, in Cape Girardeau, to Henry Charles and Isabel A. Stricker Kirn. She and Melvin Ely were married Sept. 9, 1995, in Jackson. Susan was a graduate of Central High School. She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Susan had a love of animals, adopting several from the Humane Society of Southeast Missouri. She loved her family and grandchildren...

Susan Marie Ely, 58, of Cape Girardeau died Tuesday, June 9, 2015, at Southeast Hospital.

She was born May 5, 1957, in Cape Girardeau, to Henry Charles and Isabel A. Stricker Kirn. She and Melvin Ely were married Sept. 9, 1995, in Jackson.

Susan was a graduate of Central High School. She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Susan had a love of animals, adopting several from the Humane Society of Southeast Missouri. She loved her family and grandchildren.

Survivors include her mother, Isabel A. Kirn of Cape Girardeau; husband, Melvin Ely of Cape Girardeau; a son, Cory (Catherine) Gaines of Jackson; a stepson, CO3 Brent (Kirstin) Ely of Fort Campbell, Kentucky; a brother, Michael (Vicki) Kirn of Jackson; two grandchildren, Ashley and Cory Gaines Jr.; two nieces; and two nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Vincent's Church, with the Rev. John Harth officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given to the family to assist with funeral expenses.
