Sullivan Clark Jr.

ESSEX, Mo. -- Sullivan Clark Jr., 70, of rural Essex (Penermon) died Monday, Aug. 12, 2002, at the St. Louis University Hospital.

He was born Nov. 14, 1931, in Hayti, Mo., son of Sullivan and Delia Loggins Clark. He and Minnie Pryor were married Dec. 31, 1954.

He was a self-employed farmer and a retired bus driver for Richland High School. He served in the U.S. Army in the Korean Conflict and was a member of the Bloomfield American Legion Post 382. He was a member of the Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church of Grayridge, Mo., serving as head of the deacon board. He also was a member of the board of directors of the Christian Liberty Association.

Survivors include his wife; eight sons, Willie Clark, Charles Clark, Sullivan (Sonny) Clark and Mitchell Clark, all of Sikeston, Mo., Elmer Clark and Gaylon Clark, both of Malden, Mo., Johnny Clark of Dallas, Texas, and Mark Clark of Rayton, N.M.; four daughters, Dealia Fave Hampton, Florence Shaw of Sikeston, Patricia Clark of Poplar Bluff, Mo., and Kelley Clark of Essex; a brother, Charlie Clark of Charleston, Mo.; a sister, Elizabeth McElmurry of St. Louis; 32 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Friends may call Saturday from 11 a.m. until the funeral hour at 1 p.m. at the Freewill Missionary Baptist Church in Sikeston. The Rev. Leroy Williams will officiate.

Burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery in Charleston. The Missouri Military Honors Program will conduct graveside rites.
