Sue Ludlow

Jetoria Sue Tyson Ludlow, 74, passed away peacefully at home in Cape Girardeau on Thursday, Feb. 21, 2008.

She was born March 23, 1933, in Portageville, Mo., to Ernest and Orvilla Bell Tyson. She married Bill Ludlow from Chicago in 1956.

Sue attended Southeast Missouri State University where she was a member of Sorosis Society, a cheerleader and a participant in the Maid of Cotton competition. She later received her undergraduate degree from the College of New Jersey.

In her early years, Sue was an elementary school teacher in both Portageville and Malden, Mo. It was during this time that she met and married Bill Ludlow, who was attending Air Force flight school in Malden. After marriage, Bill's career with Atlantic Richfield and his subsequent consulting firm required them to live in various parts of the country. It also allowed them to travel extensively throughout the world. Sue was an avid antique collector who enjoyed bringing home "finds" from their travels.

Sue was also deeply interested in genealogy and was an active member of the Nancy Hunter Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Cape Girardeau.

She loved gourmet cooking, tennis and home decorating. She had ample opportunity to fix up homes due to Bill's career transfers. Among her many gifts was her ability to always make a house a home. She did this in Haddenfield, N.J.; Charlotte, N.C.; Houston; Malvern, Pa.; Princeton, N.J.; Gladwyne, Pa.; Conroe, Texas; West University, Texas; Charlottesville, Va., and Cape Girardeau.

Sue is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Bill Ludlow, of Cape Girardeau; a daughter, Libby Collet of Dallas, along with her husband, Jim and their sons, Will and Jack; a son, Ty Ludlow of Cape Girardeau, along with his fiancee Tammy Gwaltney and her daughter, Alex.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
