STEVEN W. GOETZ

CHAFFEE -- Steven Wayne Goetz, 18, Chaffee Route 1, died unexpectedly Wednesday, Aug. 31, 1994, while playing basketball at the University of Missouri in Columbia.

He was born Oct. 9, 1975, in Cape Girardeau, son of Larry Gene and Vickie Sue Steffens Goetz.

Goetz was a freshman at the university.

He was an honor student four years, and was valedictorian and vice president of the 1994 class of Chaffee High School. He was captain of the football team, lettering three years; co-captain of the baseball team, lettering three years; played on the basketball team, lettering one year.

Goetz was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Chaffee, Chaffee Varsity Club, Beta Club, SADD Chapter, French Club, Future Business Leaders of America, Biology Ecology Club, and was in band one year.

Survivors include his parents; two brothers, Kevin and Ryan Goetz of the home; a sister, Amy Goetz of the home; maternal grandparents, Willard and Mandy Steffens of Frohna, and paternal grandparents, Melvin and Bertha Goetz, Chaffee Route 1.

Friends may call at Amick-Burnett Funeral Home in Chaffee after 3 p.m. today.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, with the Rev. Karl Leeman officiating. Burial will be in Union Park Cemetery.
