CLINTON, Mo. -- Stephen "Beaver" Miles, 65, of Clinton and formerly of Morley, Missouri, passed away Sunday, March 6, 2016, at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri.
Born on Aug. 1, 1950, in Cape Girardeau, he was the son of the late Harley and Virgie Houseman Miles.
He graduated as valedictorian in 1968 from Scott County Central High School, where as a basketball player, he was named to the All Scott-Mississippi County team, the district team and honorable mention to the all-state team. He attended Southeast Missouri State University until joining the U.S. Air Force. While in the Air Force, he served in Thailand in radio intelligence. Following military duty, he returned to college and earned a business-administration degree. He was an avid fisherman and shared this love with his family.
He is survived by three sisters, Darla Jane (Arthur) Terry of Fremont, Missouri, Nancy Jones of Perkins, Missouri, and Kathy Coatney of Morehouse, Missouri, and a brother, Jack Miles (Sharon) of Clinton.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Gary Miles; a sister, Jean Milam; and a beloved nephew, Cam Milam.
A memorial service with full military honors will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield.
