MOUNDS, Ill. -- Stella M. Franklin, 93, of Mounds died Thursday, Dec. 7, 1995, at the Carbondale Health Center. She was born June 29, 1902, in Mt. Pleasant, the daughter of General and Ida Darnell Smith. She married Fred E. Franklin, who preceded her in death in 1980...

MOUNDS, Ill. -- Stella M. Franklin, 93, of Mounds died Thursday, Dec. 7, 1995, at the Carbondale Health Center.

She was born June 29, 1902, in Mt. Pleasant, the daughter of General and Ida Darnell Smith. She married Fred E. Franklin, who preceded her in death in 1980.

Franklin was a retired beauty operator. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Mounds Women's Club.

A brother, Everett Smith of Carbondale, survives. She was preceded in death by four sisters and a brother.

Friends may call from 9-11 a.m. Wednesday at Barkett Funeral Home in Mounds, where funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Bill McGhee will officiate, and burial will be in Calvary Cemetery at Villa Ridge.
