Stanley Davis, 83, of Jackson passed away Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014, at his home. He was born Aug. 16, 1930, in Roosevelt, Okla., son of John Turner and Zilly "Billy" Spinks Davis. He and Janice P. Burkley were married June 1, 1952. Together they had five children who survive: Danny Davis of Millersville, Cheryl Reis of Spanaway, Wash., Russel Davis of Anniston, Ala., Lee Davis of Jackson and Kenny Davis of Dallas. ...

Stanley Davis, 83, of Jackson passed away Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014, at his home.

He was born Aug. 16, 1930, in Roosevelt, Okla., son of John Turner and Zilly "Billy" Spinks Davis. He and Janice P. Burkley were married June 1, 1952.

Together they had five children who survive: Danny Davis of Millersville, Cheryl Reis of Spanaway, Wash., Russel Davis of Anniston, Ala., Lee Davis of Jackson and Kenny Davis of Dallas. He and Shirley Faye Hill were married April 12, 1987, and added to the family a daughter and three stepchildren: Shirley Ann Davis and Roger Grubbs of Patton, Richard Grubbs of Sikeston and Sherry Williams of Jackson.

Stanley graduated from high school in Phoenix.

He served in the U.S. Air Force from Sept. 6, 1950, until being honorably discharged Sept. 15, 1953.

Stanley was a telephone technician with AT&T 36 years. In 1968 he moved to Jackson from Blytheville, Ark., and shortly after started Davis Air Conditioning Co. while still working for AT&T. Through the years he continued to assist his son, Danny, who now manages the air conditioning business. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Jackson since 1969 and was a former deacon.

In addition to his loving wife, Shirley, his former wife and friend, Janice, and his children and stepchildren, he is survived by; a brother, Eddie Ray Davis of Birmingham, Ala.; a sister-in-law, Jessie Grubbs of Perryville, Mo.; a brother-in-law, Enos Hill of Essex, Mo.; 26 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. today and from 1 p.m. to service time Tuesday at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Timothy Lee officiating. Interment will be in Russell Heights Cemetery with full military honors.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to Crown Hospice.
