Spencer "Pete" Jones, 78, formerly of Jackson, died Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2007, in Diamondhead, Miss. He was born Sept. 11, 1929, in Holstein, Mo., son of Spencer C. and Ethel G. Morton Jones. He and Laura Lawrence were married Aug. 5, 1951. She died Jan, 18, 1983. He and Helen Schulte Stroud were married Jan. 7, 1984...

Spencer "Pete" Jones, 78, formerly of Jackson, died Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2007, in Diamondhead, Miss.

He was born Sept. 11, 1929, in Holstein, Mo., son of Spencer C. and Ethel G. Morton Jones. He and Laura Lawrence were married Aug. 5, 1951. She died Jan, 18, 1983. He and Helen Schulte Stroud were married Jan. 7, 1984.

He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.

He was a 1947 graduate of Jackson High School. He retired from HWI Hardware with over 20 years of service. He was a former member of New McKendree United Methodist Church in Jackson. In Mississippi, he was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and Joe Graham American Legion Post 119, both in Gulfport. He volunteered with the International Seaman's Center and Gideons International.

Survivors include his wife; two stepchildren, Mike Stroud of Saucier, Miss., Melissa D'Angelo of Gulfport, Miss.; two brothers, Dean Jones of Jackson, Gary Jones of Springfield, Mo.; and four sisters, Eulene Davenport of Page, Ariz., Shirley Englehart and Patsy Langston of O'Fallon, Mo., Dorothy Farrow of Washington, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Joe Jones.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson. The funeral will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday at Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson, with the Rev. John Rice officiating.
