McCLURE, Ill. -- Sophia Mae Poirrier, 94, of McClure died Saturday, Feb. 6, 2021, peacefully in her sleep at her daughter's home. McCLURE, Ill. -- Sophia Mae Poirrier, 94, of McClure died Saturday, Feb. 6, 2021, peacefully in her sleep at her daughter's home.

She was born Aug. 2, 1926, in Gorham, Illinois, to Chester Arthur Killian and Gettie Pierce Killian. Sophia and James A. Poirrier were married Jan. 27, 1951, in Piggott, Arkansas.

Sophia grew up in Gorham and moved to McClure, where she lived for the rest of her life.

She was a member of St. Vincent's de Paul Catholic Church and was a life member of VFW Post No. 3838 Auxiliary. Sophia was a member of the Saint Francis Hospital Auxiliary, and volunteered for over 40 years, where we she received numerous recognitions for her service.

She worked at Ralph Edwards Sportswear, Lustour Corp. and Ely Walker.

Survivors include a daughter, LaDonna Poirrier (Richard) Hengst of Cape Girardeau; three grandchildren, Michelle (Steven) Ross, LeAnne (Justin) Graham and Grant Hengst (fiancee Lauren Vaughn); and four great-grandchildren, Alec Turner, Anna Ross, Colton Graham and Brenna Graham.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sisters, Ethel Killian Clover and Hattie Killian Vanover; and a brother, Arlie Arthur Killian.

In honor of Sophia's wishes, there will be no visitation and a private graveside service. Burial will be at Lindsey Cemetery in McClure.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the VFW Post No. 3838 Auxiliary, 1049 N. Kingshighway, Cape Girardeau, MO 63701.
