Sister M. Timothy Scharenborg, 79, died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013, at DuPage Convalescent Center in Wheaton, Ill.

She was born Mary Frances in Leopold, Mo., daughter of Henry and Josephine Scharenborg. She attended Leopold Elementary School and graduated from St. Mary's High School in Cape Girardeau in 1951.

Scharenborg was employed at the old Saint Francis Hospital until 1955, when she entered the Congregation of the Wheaton Franciscan Sisters. She was assigned to St. Anthony's Hospital in St. Louis and attended Fontbonne College, graduating with a bachelor of science degree in dietetics.

She did her internship as dietitian at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minn., and in 1962 professed her perpetual vows with the Franciscans and was assigned to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton, Wis.

In 1963 she went to St. Anthony's Hospital in St. Louis as administrative and clinical dietitian until 1977. Sister Timothy transferred to Franciscan motherhouse in Wheaton as administrative dietitian for both the motherhouse and Marianjoy Rehab Hospital, a position she held until retirement in 1998.

In her retirement, Sister Timothy continued to manage the motherhouse sisters' dining room. She tended the flower gardens and provided embroidered baby blankets and ceramic figurines for the Marianjoy Hospital gift shop and motherhouse. She enjoyed attending Bible study prayer groups.

Other pastimes were following Major League Baseball and enjoying classic movies. She wrote that she would like to be remembered "as a caring, loyal and faithful Franciscan."

She is survived by two sisters and brothers-in-law, Marcella and Joseph Sullivan of Cape Girardeau, Margaret (Bob) Kielhofner of Kelso, Mo.; a brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Pansy Scharenborg of Sikeston, Mo.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Virginia.

Mass of Christian burial was held Wednesday at the Wheaton Franciscan Our Lady of Angels Chapel, with the Rev. Tom Brokowski as celebrant. Burial was in Assumption Cemetery in Wheaton.
