SISTER NORMA RESSEL

BENTON -- Funeral Mass for Sister Norma Hilda Ressel of Techny, Ill., was held Monday at Convent of the Holy Spirit in Techny. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery in Techny.

Ressel, 89, died Wednesday, Nov. 26, 1997, at the convent.

She was born at Benton, and attended St. Augustine School in Kelso.

Ressel joined the Holy Spirit Missionary Sisters in 1925, and professed her first religious vows in 1928. Several months later she began her mission ministry as a kindergarten teacher in Vicksburg, Miss.

She then served at St. Therese Hospital in Waukegan, Ill.; in Girard and Hammett, Pa.; and North Little Rock, Ark. She returned to Techny in 1951 and served the elderly at St. Ann's Home until it closed in 1983.

Survivors include three sisters, Sister Sienna Ressel at Sacred Heart Home in Hyattsville, Md., Sister Patricia Ressel of Techny, and Marcella Lankheit of Charleston.

She was preceded in death by her parents and six brothers and sisters.
