KELSO, Mo. -- Sister Elaine Georger, 87, a member of the Wheaton Franciscan Sisters, died Wednesday, May 4, 2011, at Franciscan Woods Nursing Home in Brookfield, Wis.
She was born in 1924 at Kelso.
Georger is survived by a sister, Mariana Georger.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Louise and Charles Georger; seven siblings, Regina, Joseph, Mat, Lucas and Sister Augusta Georger, Coena Dambach and Alvena Lett.
Georger entered the order in 1945, and professed vows in 1951. After her studies, she served as a teacher and principal. Her ministry extended from the Cape Girardeau area to Wauconda and Wheaton, Ill., to Raymond, Iowa, and Sacred Heart Orphanage in Pueblo, Colo.
After completing training in clinical pastoral education, Georger served as chaplain at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
During the AIDS epidemic in the 1980s, she became a certified AIDS counselor. She also served from 1978 to 1979 at the congregation's general headquarters in Rome.
Georger's presence and service will be greatly missed.
A prayer and wake service will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday at Our Lady of Angels Convent, 26W171 Roosevelt Road in Wheaton.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the convent.
