Shirley Rose Whittard, 82, of Cape Girardeau died Monday, March 2, 2020, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.
She was born Aug. 1, 1937, in Perry County, Missouri, to Cletus and Stella Sutterer Klump.
Shirley graduated from St. Vincent's School in 1955, then she went to the Cape Girardeau School of Cosmetology, graduating in March 1956. She had a 59-year career, enjoying many patrons.
She was a member of the Cathedral of St. Mary, the Council of Catholic Women, and the American Legion and Marine Corps League auxiliaries. She and husband, Tom Whittard, enjoyed volunteering at the Missouri Veterans Home and going on trips.
Shirley is survived by her devoted husband, Tom Whittard; loving daughter, Jo Reeves; sister and brothers, Mary Lou Malloy, Melvin Klump and Roger (Joan) Klump; sisters-in-law, Betty Klump and Aleen Klump; brother-in-law, Donnie Carron; many great- and great-great-nieces and -nephews, friends and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Leo and Hilary Klump; sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Robert Fluegel; and sister, Kathleen Carron.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the Crain Funeral Home and Cremation Service, with parish prayers at 7 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Cathedral of St. Mary, with the Rev. Allan Saunders as celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to St. Mary Social Food Pantry, Missouri Veterans Home or a charity of donor's choice.
Shirley and family thank Dr. Andrew Moore and the staff at Southeast Oncology for their great care and all who kept her in their prayers during her battle with bile duct cancer.
