Shirley M. Statler, 86, of Jackson passed away Monday, July 1, 2013, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

She was born Nov. 20, 1926, in Jackson, daughter of Roy Bryan Smith and Rika Loos Smith Mabrey. She and E. Hirschel Statler were married Aug. 29, 1948. He passed away May 12, 2009.

Shirley was an active member of Emanuel United Church of Christ in Jackson where she had been, among other things, a secretary, Sunday school teacher, youth fellowship, vacation bible school teacher, a member of the church council and Bethany Circle.

She worked part time at H.W. Meyr Accounting Service in Cape Girardeau and Jackson Bowling Lanes. Being a bowler herself, she taught many youngsters how to bowl. She helped with Cub Scouts and was a room mother several years.

Loving survivors include a son, Mark Statler of Jackson; a sister, Bonnie L. Wilkening of Cape Girardeau; a brother, R.B. (Judith Schuch) Smith of Lovell, Wyo.; a stepsister, Dorothy Shea of Jacksonville, Ark.; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Joe Scott Statler; a brother, Richard L. Smith; an infant brother; and a stepsister, June Hilpert.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Sam Roethemeyer officiating. Interment will be in Cape County Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to Emanuel United Church of Christ or the charity of choice.
