ADVANCE, Mo. -- Shirley Jean Rainey, 82, of Advance formerly of Dexter, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, May 8, 2019, at Crowley Ridge Care Center in Dexter.
She was born Feb. 10, 1937, at Kennett, Missouri, the daughter of Burley and Lillian Skelton James. Shirley and Sidney Allen Rainey were united in marriage May 1, 1955, at Hernado, Mississippi, and he preceded her in death March 30, 2008.
Shirley had been the administrator of Dexter Medical and Surgical Clinic for many years. She believed in the General Baptist faith. Her greatest joys were her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed attending many of her grandchildren's sports activities throughout the years. She was also an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.
Loving survivors include four sons, Jim (Melinda) Rainey of Advance, Steve (Marla) Rainey of Dexter, Earl Rainey of Bloomfield, Missouri, and Larry (Kathy) Rainey of Bell City, Missouri; a sister, Rieann Carroll of Burlington, Wisconsin; 13 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and three brothers.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Morgan Funeral Chapel in Advance.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the chapel, with the Rev. Bob Bradford officiating. Burial will follow at Morgan Memorial Park in Advance.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bell City General Baptist Church.
