Shirley Jean Mitchell, 76, of Cape Girardeau died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2009, at the Lutheran Home. She was born Feb. 16, 1932, in Keiser, Ark., daughter of Thomas and Flora Ruth Kenser Young. She and David E. Mitchell were married Feb. 14, 1953, in Piggott, Ark. He died May 25, 2001...

Shirley Jean Mitchell, 76, of Cape Girardeau died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2009, at the Lutheran Home.

She was born Feb. 16, 1932, in Keiser, Ark., daughter of Thomas and Flora Ruth Kenser Young. She and David E. Mitchell were married Feb. 14, 1953, in Piggott, Ark. He died May 25, 2001.

Mitchell lived in Puxico, Mo., several years, and then in the Patton and Marble Hill, Mo., area until moving to Cape Girardeau in 2006.

She retired from Thorngate Ltd. and was a member of Calvary United Pentecostal Church in Jackson.

Survivors include three sons, David Mitchell of Fredericktown, Mo., Gordon Mitchell of Cape Girardeau, Michael Mitchell of Marion, Ill.; three daughters, Patricia Cooper of Puxico, Cathy Allen of Leopold, Mo., Carol Mitchell of Kilgore, Texas; a sister, Patsy Bishop of Jackson, Tenn.; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.

Visitation will be after 5 p.m. Friday at Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Puxico.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. David Jackson officiating. Burial will be in Duck Creek Cemetery near Puxico.
