CAPE GIRARDEAU -- Miss Shirley L. Crites of Sun City, Ariz., died Friday, Dec. 28, 1990, in a hospice in Phoenix, Ariz. She was 56 years old.
She was born Aug. 21, 1934, in Cape, daughter of Lewis O. and Anna M. Crites.
The family moved to Jackson in 1949, and she graduated from Jackson High School in 1952.
Miss Crites played girls major league baseball with the Fort Wayne Daisies in Fort Wayne, Ind., and was entered into the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, N.Y., in 1988.
After her baseball career she was an executive with Motorola TV and then was employed at Allis-Chalmers until retiring due to ill health.
Miss Crites lived in Chicago a number of years, moving to Sun City in 1986.
Survivors include two sisters, Connie and Earline Crites of St. Louis; a brother, Forrest Crites of Martinez, Calif.; four nieces and three nephews.
She was preceded in death by a sister.
There were no services held.
