CAIRO, Ill. -- Shirley L. Knitter, 74, of Cairo died Monday, Feb. 25, 2002, at Daystar Care Center. She was born March 23, 1927, in Cairo, daughter of Foster H. and Jennie Blackburn Barnes. CAIRO, Ill. -- Shirley L. Knitter, 74, of Cairo died Monday, Feb. 25, 2002, at Daystar Care Center.

She was born March 23, 1927, in Cairo, daughter of Foster H. and Jennie Blackburn Barnes. She married Kenneth L. Knitter, who died in 1993.

Knitter was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and Cairo VFW Post 2649 Auxiliary.

Survivors include a niece, Karen Roberts of Cape Girardeau.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Friends may call at Barkett Funeral Home in Cairo from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick's Church. The Rev. Jerome Fortenberry will officiate. Burial will be in Mound City National Cemetery in Mound City, Ill.
