ORAN -- Funeral mass for Shirley J. Schlitt, Oran Route 1, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Guardian Angel Catholic Church. The Rev. Richard Rolwing will officiate, assisted by the Rev. Frederick Lutz. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Friends may call at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Oran after 3 p.m. Sunday. Parish prayers will be at 7 and Knights of Columbus prayer service at 7:30.
Schlitt, 58, died Thursday, Jan. 12, 1995, at her home.
She was born Feb. 20, 1936, at Oran, daughter of Jeff and Bessie Dunning Ates. She and Carl "Butch" Schlitt were married Oct. 20, 1954, in Flint, Mich.
Schlitt was a part-time instructor in the English Department at Southeast Missouri State University from 1988-1992. She was a member of Guardian Angel Church.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Mark Schlitt, Chaffee Route 1; a daughter, Cheri Olson of Sumter, S.C.; four brothers, Ellis Ates of Arlington, Va., Jack Ates of Colorado Springs, Colo., Leroy Ates of Abilene, Texas, Junior Ates of New Jersey, and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter and sister.
