DONGOLA, Ill. -- Funeral for Shirley Hite of Dongola will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church. The Rev. Paul Sadler will officiate. Burial will be in Mound City National Cemetery.

Friends may call at Crain Funeral Home in Dongola from 4-9 p.m. today, and Thursday at the church after 9 a.m.

Hite, 60, died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2000, at Daystar Care Center in Cairo.

She was born Aug. 8, 1939, in Mounds, daughter of Chester and Vera Lackey Parrott. She and Thomas J. Hite were married May 7, 1955. He died July 29, 1981.

Hite was a DCFS homemaker-transporter. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Positive Youth Development Committee, VFW Ladies Auxiliary, and was an RSVP aide for Union County.

She served on the Dongola Library Board, Union County Project Success, Dongola Education Assistance Corp., Ladies Auxiliary to Dongola Fire Department, and Rural Health Board. She also worked with seniors through Shawnee Development and Share and Care in Dongola.

Hite had been a foster parent and a foster parent support specialist.

Survivors include three sons, Thomas Hite of Dongola, Patrick Hite of Anna, Randy Hite of Tampa, Fla.; and a daughter, Joanna Briggs.

Also surviving are three brothers, Chester Parrott Jr. of San Antonio, Texas, Larry Parrott of Yuma, Ariz., Jerry Parrott of Little Rock, Ark.; seven sisters, Donna Young of Yuma, Ruth Hudson and Angie Dean of Mounds, Doris Spraggs of Jackson, Mo., Vickie Dover of Olmsted, Judy Hite of Cairo, Lisa Arnhart of Tamms; and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
