Shirlene Voerg gained her angel wings Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2019, after spending her final days surrounded by family and friends in Cape Girardeau. It brings her family great comfort to know she was reunited with the love of her life, Bill, and the sisters and grandson she missed so much.
Shirlene was born in Cape Girardeau on Nov.17, 1939, to Harry and Lorene Rhyne. She and William "Bill" Voerg were married Jan. 9, 1958, in New Albany, Mississippi. They spent the majority of their lives together in Cape Girardeau, where they raised their family.
Shirlene was a member of Eagles Club No. 3775 and Elks Lodge No. 639 and attended Christ Church of the Heartland. She retired from Florsheim Shoe factory and went back to school to earn her certified nursing assistant degree, so she could do what she loved to do most -- care for others.
Shirlene was so proud of her children and grandchildren and never missed an opportunity to tell anyone about them and show off their pictures.
She is survived by a daughter, Belinda (Gary) Miller of Cape Girardeau; sons, Derrick (Sherri) Voerg of Jackson and Lloyd (Tina) Voerg of Cape Girardeau; grandchildren, Gary (Hillary) Miller of Cape Girardeau, Amber Voerg of St. Louis, Ashlie (Jami) Voerg of St. Louis, Jessica (Derick) McClain of Gordonville, Alex (Chris) Beck of Cape Girardeau and Ryan (Rachel) Voerg of Cape Girardeau; nine great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters and a grandson, Lloyd W. Voerg.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with Elijah Allen officiating. Entombment will follow at Cape County Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Memorial contributions may be given to the family to help defray expenses.
