CHAFFEE, Mo. -- Sherman Arvie Vessells, 81, of Chaffee died Thursday, Dec. 23, 2010, at Chaffee Nursing Center. He was born Jan. 4, 1929, in Lilbourn, Mo., son of Gus and Elvie Blevins Vessells. He and Opal Jane Blue were married Dec. 20, 1952, in Piggott, Ark...

CHAFFEE, Mo. -- Sherman Arvie Vessells, 81, of Chaffee died Thursday, Dec. 23, 2010, at Chaffee Nursing Center.

He was born Jan. 4, 1929, in Lilbourn, Mo., son of Gus and Elvie Blevins Vessells. He and Opal Jane Blue were married Dec. 20, 1952, in Piggott, Ark.

Sherman worked at Stovall Construction and was a mechanic at Lee Rowan.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Sherman Allen (Donna) Vessells of Randles; a daughter, Beverly (Joe) James of Chaffee; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and a sister.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the chapel, with the Rev. Jack Owens officiating. Burial will be in Kenyon Cemetery near Delta, with full military honors.
