SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Scott K. Schaper, 67, of Springfield passed away Friday, Feb. 25, 2022, at his home.

He was born April 30, 1954, to Randolph and Grace Moore Schaper in Cape Girardeau.

Scott was a 1972 graduate of Oak Ridge High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was assigned to the Seabees. He served one year in the Naval Reserve. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army and retired in 1992 at the rank of staff sergeant. He worked in construction and then, for many years, as an over-the-road truck driver.

Scott is survived by his mother, Grace Schaper of Jackson; four siblings, Richard Schaper of Springfield; Allen (Vicki) Schaper of Carl's Junction, Missouri; Patricia Wells of Peculiar, Missouri; and Kevin Schaper of Jackson; four nieces, Melissa (Andrew) Jordan, Janell (Dustin) Franks, Alicia (Cory) Hammonds and Kyla Larry) Russell; and two nephews, Andrew Schaper and Kyle (Stacy) Schaper.

He was preceded in death by his father, Randolph Schaper.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home followed by military honors. A private burial will follow in the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
