Sarah Holmes
ORAN, Mo. -- Sarah Marie Holmes, 94, of Oran passed away Friday, May 1, 2009, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
She was born to the late James T. and Florence Hubbard Yarbrough on March 17, 1915, at Casa, Ark. She married Willis T. Holmes on Sep. 8, 1934, and he preceded her in death July 13, 2003.
She retired from farming and was a great homemaker. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Oran.
Survivors include three sons, Leroy Holmes of Oran; Glenn Holmes of Sikeston, Mo., and Bill Holmes of Oran; two daughters, Mary Ann Janner of McKenzie, Tenn., and Shirley Anderson of Sikeston; two sisters, Lottie Mon of Oran and Rose Collins of Kansas City, Mo.; 13 grandchildren, Steve Holmes, Terry Holmes and Scott Holmes, all of Oran; Chad Holmes of Sikeston, Melissa Smith of Valparaiso, Ind.; Markle Janner of Seffner, Fla., Tracy Powell of McKenzie, Tenn., Brad Anderson of Columbia, Mo., Blake Anderson of Kansas City; Jeremy Anderson of Sikeston; Joaquin Anderson of Dallas, Ben Anderson of Sikeston; Nathan Holmes of Oran; 27 great-grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren.
Two brothers, Mason and Ted Yarbrough, preceded her in death.
Friends may call after 5 p.m. Sunday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Oran.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday in the First Baptist Church in Oran, with the Rev. Ed Carter officiating, assisted by Dr. Tony Janner.
Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Sikeston.
Pallbearers will be grandsons Terry Holmes, Scott Holmes, Chad Holmes, Jeremy Anderson, Joaquin Anderson, Ben Anderson and Nathan Holmes. Honorary pallbearers will be grandsons Steve Holmes, Markle Janner, Brad Anderson and Blake Anderson.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations made to the First Baptist Church in Oran.
