Sarah Jane Guebert, 50, of Cape Girardeau, died Friday, April 1, 2011, at Saint Francis Medical Center.

She was born Nov. 17, 1960, in Cape Girardeau to Louis H. and Allyne Crites Bodenstein. She and Perry L. Guebert were married Oct. 18, 1997, at Jackson.

Sarah retired from the U.S. Navy as petty officer 1st class after more than 21 years. She graduated from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale with a bachelor's degree in aviation management.

She was a member and active at Good Shepherd Lutheran Chapel, belonging to the Ladies Aid, Ladies Guild and was a former church secretary. She was a Girl Scouts troop leader and a member of American Legion Post No. 63, Pampered Chef and was treasurer of Camp SEMO.

Survivors include her husband, Perry L. Guebert of Cape Girardeau, a daughter, Andrea Louise Guebert of Cape Girardeau; a stepson, Ian Daniel Guebert of Cambridge, England; five sisters, Melody (John) Hagans of Jackson, Anita (David Thiede) Lansmon of Flower Mound, Texas, Edith (Kevin) Neal of Cape Girardeau, Linda Bock-Seyer of Cape Girardeau, Suzanne Bodenstein of St. Louis; two brothers, Alan (Kathy) Oberbeck and Clarence Bodenstein of Jackson; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by parents and a brother, Homer L. Oberbeck.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Chapel and from 9 a.m. until time of service Tuesday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Chapel.

Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with the Rev. Barry L. Pfanstiel officiating.

Burial will be at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery with full military rites by the Missouri Honors Team.

Memorial contributions may be given to Good Shepherd Lutheran Chapel or American Cancer Society for breast cancer research.
