MARQUETTE, Mich. -- Sarah E. Ballard, 94, formerly of Chocolay Township, entered eternal life Thursday evening, Aug. 25, 2016, at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility in Ishpeming.
Born Sept. 23, 1921, in Cape Girardeau, the daughter of Frank and Rose (Leming) Kenyon, Sarah was raised in Topeka, Kansas, where she graduated from high school. She continued her education, receiving an associate's degree as a licensed practical nurse. Future employments included working at the Grim Smith Hospital and Clinic in Kirksville, Missouri, and then in Lansing, Michigan, where she resided for 20 years. Sarah had been a Marquette-area resident since 2010. Sarah's passion was nursing and her career meant a great deal to her. She was an accomplished seamstress and great cook.
Survivors include her sons, Spencer (Eugenia) Ballard of Detroit and Douglas (Cynthia) Ballard of Harvey, Michigan; her grandchildren, Alex, Andrew, Kevin, Carrissa, Rudi and Ian Ballard; and great-grandchildren, Jacob Robins, Stella and Claire Ballard. Sarah was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kurt Ballard in 1957; and a son, Kevin Ballard.
Honoring Sarah's request, no services will be scheduled.
