THEBES, Ill. -- Samuel Edward Salmon, 80, of Thebes died Sunday, Jan. 19, 2014, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. THEBES, Ill. -- Samuel Edward Salmon, 80, of Thebes died Sunday, Jan. 19, 2014, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Feb. 21, 1933, in Cairo, Ill., to Paul and Ouida Fults Salmon. He first married Patsy Trexler in 1952. She preceded him in death in 2000. He then married Earlene Fisher May 24, 2005, in Wickliffe, Ky.

Salmon was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mound City, Ill. He received a bachelor's degree in teaching from Southeast Missouri State University and a master's degree in industrial arts education from Southern Illinois University.

Survivors include his wife, Earlene Salmon of Thebes; two sons, Bruce E. and Paul A. (Denise) Salmon of Cape Girardeau; a sister, Sydney Heggood of Jacksonville, Fla.; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents and first wife.

Friends may call 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Ford and Sons Sprigg Street Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Bobby Manso officiating. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery near Olive Branch, Ill.
