SCOTT CITY -- Samuel J. Hitt, 90, of Scott City died Friday, Jan. 3, 1997, at his home.
He was born Sept. 7, 1906, in Arbor, son of Walter and Alice Adkins Hitt. He was a retired operator on mills for the Marquette and Lone Star Cement Plant. He married Alfredia Beklund on Dec. 3, 1935, in Jackson. She survives.
He was an associate member of Memorial Wesleyan Church in Scott City, a former Ancell School District board member and a member of United Lime, Gypsum and Cement Workers Union Local 164.
He is also survived by four daughters, Essie Slinkard of Concord, N.C., and Pauline Collins, Melba Buckner and Marie Vetter, all of Scott City; a brother, Walter Hitt II of Cape Girardeau; four sisters, Irene Davis and Lucille Friese, both of Cape Girardeau, and Alice Henry of Perryville and Marie Dooley of Chaffee; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. today at the Amick-Burnett Chapel in Scott City, with the Rev. Jere Gowin officiating and Mark Fisher giving the eulogy. Burial will be in Lightner Cemetery in Scott City.
