Sammie Gene Pounds, 65, of Whitewater died Friday, May 8, 2009, at Saint Francis Medical Center.
He was born March 3, 1944, in Clovis, N.M., son of Ferris Samual and Hazel Alma McGulley Pounds. He was married to Wanda Green on June 15, 1970.
Pounds was an over the road truck driver for Jerry Lipps Trucking, Terry James Trucking and Danny Gilder Trucking. He also was a self-employed diesel mechanic.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Charles Wayne and David Sander, both of Whitewater; two daughters, Sandra Barnes of Cape Girardeau and Tina Schaffer of Oran, Mo; one brother, Dan Pounds of Canyon, Texas; a sister, Betty Pounds of Albuquerque, N.M.; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Elmer; a brother, John; and three sisters, Martha, Dee and Jerri.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Cracraft-Miller Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Jim Matthews officiating. Burial will follow in McGurie Cemetery near Burfordville, Mo.
