JACKSON -- Ruth Short, 72, of Jackson died Thursday, May 30, 1991, at the Deal Nursing Home, where she had been a resident the past two years.

She was born Feb. 5, 1919, the daughter of James M. and Martha Elizabeth Ervin Markert. On Sept. 21, 1937, she married Paul Q. Short, who survives.

She had been a Jackson resident since her marriage in 1937 and formerly worked at the Jackson Hosiery Mill and in the maternity ward of Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau for 25 years prior to her retirement in 1982.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Jackson and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Other survivors include a son, James William Short of Hammond, Ind; a daughter, Evelyn Morton of Jackson; a sister, Naomi Latham of Cape Girardeau; and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son and a brother.

Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Saturday at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson, where funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday. The Rev. William Bernauer will officiate, and burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Fruitland.
