Ruth Shafer, 92, of Cape Girardeau died Monday, Feb. 12, 2007, at Chateau Girardeau.
She was born June 21, 1914, in Jackson County, Ill., daughter of Ellis and Cora Freeman Brown. She and Elmer Shafer were married Sept. 7, 1937. He died March 24, 1987.
Shafer had several short anecdotes published and authored "How I Became Whatever It Is I Am." She was formerly of Perryville, Mo., and a member of Perryville United Methodist Church. She was formerly active in the 4-H Club.
Survivors include four sons, Kenneth Shafer of Fernandina Beach, Fla., Lawrence Shafer of St. Peters, Mo., John Shafer of Columbia, Mo., Lynn Shafer of Sedalia, Mo.; a daughter, Bonnie Scherer of Marquand, Mo.; a sister, Irene Eckert of Murphysboro, Ill.; 11 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by a son, two brothers, two sisters and a half sister.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, and Saturday from 6:30 a.m. to time of service at Young and Sons Funeral Home in Perryville.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. James Shemwell officiating. Burial will be in York Chapel Cemetery.
