Ruth A. Ponder, 89, of Cape Girardeau died Friday, June 8, 2012, at Southeast Hospital.

She was born Jan. 2, 1923, in Perry County, Mo., to Benjamin and Alma Brandes Bock. She and Thomas F. Ponder were married Oct. 25, 1947, at Sikeston, Mo. He died Feb. 1, 2006.

Ruth and her husband moved to Cape Girardeau in 1951 from Old Appleton, Mo. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and was a Sunday school worker. She was a member of VFW Post 3838 Auxiliary and a former volunteer at the Cape Girardeau Senior Center.

Survivors include two daughters, Karen M. (Ken) Hoffman and Judy A. (Kevin) Day of Cape Girardeau; grandchildren, Lori A. (Mike) Schoenberger of Offutt, Neb., Jeremy M. (Michelle) Hohler of Jackson, and Angie M. (Brent) Neader, Kenny O. Hoffman II and Sarah E. Hoffman, all of Cape Girardeau; great-grandchildren, Houston M. Schoenberger, Kaleigh E. Schoenberger and Preston T. Schoenberger, all of Offutt, Abigail N. Hohler and Addison G. Hohler, both of Jackson, and Peyton E. Neader and Elena R. Hoffman, both of Cape Girardeau; a sister, Irene Palisch of Altenburg, Mo.; and two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Bock and Vernelle Bock, both of Uniontown, Mo.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Chapel.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Douglas C. Breite officiating. Burial will be at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
