Miss Ruth J. Adams passed away at Barnes-Jewish St. Peters Hospital, St. Peters, Missouri, on Wednesday, September 23, 1998, at the age of 86. Visitation will be Saturday, September 26, 1998, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., with services following at Ford & Sons Funeral Home, 1001 Mount Auburn Road, the Rev. Philip Curran officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery...

Miss Ruth J. Adams passed away at Barnes-Jewish St. Peters Hospital, St. Peters, Missouri, on Wednesday, September 23, 1998, at the age of 86.

Visitation will be Saturday, September 26, 1998, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., with services following at Ford & Sons Funeral Home, 1001 Mount Auburn Road, the Rev. Philip Curran officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Miss Adams was born on March 24, 1912, in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, the daughter of Charles O. and Edna E. Adams. She was educated in Cape Public Schools, graduating from Central High School in 1930. She obtained her Bachelor of Science degree from what was then Southeast Missouri State Teachers College in 1934. She taught in schools in Missouri & Illinois for 40 years. She first taught at Randles, Missouri and Mehlville, Missouri, before going to Murphysboro, Illinois Township High School, where she taught Vocational Home Economics until retirement. At that time, she returned to Cape where she lived with her sister, Lucille, in the family home until 1995 when they moved to St. Peters, Missouri, to be near the rest of their family.

Ruth was a member of the Hesperian Literary Society and a lifelong member of the First Christian Church of Cape Girardeau.

She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant brother.

She is survived by two sisters, Lucille E. Adams of St. Charles, Missouri and Mildred E. Oberle (Thomas) of St. Peters, Missouri; two nieces, Rebecca L. Bunting (William) of St. Charles, Missouri and Jane E. Rigdon (Joseph) of St. Peters, Missouri; one nephew, Timothy E. Oberle (Susan) of Overland Park, Kansas; four great-nieces, Anne Frohock, Jennifer Rigdon, Jill Rigdon, Tiffany Oberle, three great nephews, Douglas Bunting, James Rigdon, Matthew Oberle; two great-great nieces; three great-great nephews; one step-great niece; one step-great nephew and one step-great-great nephew.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The First Christian Church of Cape Girardeau.
