Ruth Campbell Evans, 94, of Cape Girardeau died Wednesday, April 23, 2014, at the Lutheran Home.
She was born April 17, 1920, in Cape Girardeau, to William Henry and Anna Katherine Campbell. She and William James Evans were married April 14, 1947, in Cape Girardeau. He preceded her in death Nov. 26, 1995.
Evans was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Cathedral in Cape Girardeau. She was a graduate of St. Mary High School (now Notre Dame Regional High School). She received a bachelor's degree in education from Southeast Missouri State University in 1942, and a degree in occupational therapy from Washington University in St. Louis in 1945.
Survivors include two sons, William Henry Evans of Bowling Green, Mo., and Michael (Diana) James Evans of St. Louis; four grandchildren, James and Stephen Evans and Elizabeth (Chris) Knecht of St. Louis and Jamie (Mark) Palmer of Benton, Mo.; four great-grandsons, Alex, Cameron and Logan Knecht and Nathan Palmer; a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Jurjevich of Chicago; special nieces, Mary (John) Keilbach of Pueblo, Colo., and Janet (Terry) Dame of Sikeston, Mo.; other nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, Arthur Petry and wife, Loretta and Manuel Campbell and wife, Lucille.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home. Parish prayers will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
A memorial Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Cathedral, with the Rev. Tom Kiefer officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery.
