PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Ruth L. Daume, 84, of Perryville passed away Sunday, Jan. 12, 2014, at Perry County Memorial Hospital.

She was born Feb. 17, 1929, in Cape Girardeau, daughter of Louis E.T. and Ella Haertling Graden. She married Edward H. Daume Sr. on April 3, 1949.

Ruth found time to work part time in the circulation department of the Perryville newspaper. In addition to her church work, Ruth was a volunteer many years at Perry County Nursing Home where she spent Friday mornings helping the residents make crafts.

When her children were younger, she volunteered as a Girl Scout leader. In her spare time, Ruth spent many hours working in her flower gardens, where she instilled a love of gardening to her children. She was a member of Faith Presbyterian Church and past member of Presbyterian Women, Church Women United, and was director 12 years of the Community Food Pantry of Perry County.

Survivors include her husband; four daughters, Brenda (Ken) Erhard of Las Cruces, N.M., Patricia (Tom) Nolen of Festus, Mo., Linda (Alan) Boxdorfer of Perryville and Karla (Mike) Prevallet of St. Mary, Mo.; two sons, Edward (Chelle) Daume Jr. and Michael (Amy) Daume of Perryville; a brother, Victor (Wilma) Graden of Grinell, Iowa; a sister, Esther Morie of Scott City; and a brother-in-law, Jim Stone of Springfield, Mo.

Also 15 grandchildren, Brian Miller, Angela McKnight, Scott Nolen, Jason Nolen, Jennifer Heibeck, Matthew Boxdorfer, Jeremy Boxdorfer, Joshua Boxdorfer, Nathan Adams, Nick Adams, Clay Prevallet, Clint Prevallet, Amanda Daume, Alexandra Daume and Michelle Daume; two stepgrandchildren, Cierra Sleyster and Jacob Sleyster; 27 great-grandchildren; and a great-stepgrandson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; seven sisters, Paula McCray, Ruby Doughty, Stella Blank, Edna Steimle, Helen Strack, Emma Walton and Marguerite Stone; a brother, Earl Graden; three nephews; and a niece.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 6:30 to 8 a.m. Thursday at Young and Sons Funeral Home, and from 9 a.m. until service time Thursday at Faith Presbyterian Church.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church, with the Rev. Bruce Owens officiating. Burial will be in Home Cemetery.

Memorials are preferred to Faith Presbyterian Church.
