Russell Lee Waggoner, 77, passed away Thursday, Feb. 8, 2018, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He leaves behind a daughter, Monica (Clark) Barnes and husband, Lance, of Cape Girardeau and a brother, Floyd "Butch" Waggoner of Carterville, Illinois.

He is also survived by a niece, Kim Waggoner Zeller, and husband Adam, and sons Ben and Zach of Houston; nephew, Lt. Col. Matthew Waggoner and wife Christy, and son Logan of Washington, D.C.; sister-in-law, Janet Nichols, and husband Charlie Eaves of Farmington, Missouri; brother-in-law, Marvin O. Hahn, and wife Karen of Farmington; and brother-in-law, Ken Hahn, and wife Connie of O'Fallon, Missouri.

He was born Feb. 15, 1940, in Rosiclare, Illinois, to the late Abner T. and Robbie F. Matthews Waggoner.

He was also preceded in death by his wife of 34 years, Susan Hahn Waggoner; brother, Nelson Waggoner; sister-in-law, Bobbie Waggoner; and brother-in-law, Lee Roy Nichols.

A Bronze Star recipient, Russell served in the Army as a staff sergeant during the Vietnam War. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion.

He graduated from Rosiclare High School in 1958 and was a retired purchasing agent from Delta Cos., SEMO Stone location. He was known for his mechanical skills and his ability to fix anything.

Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.

A graveside service with full military honors will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Elizabethtown Empire Odd Fellows Cemetery in Elizabethtown, Illinois, with special friend, the Rev. Stan Hargis, officiating.
