Russell A. Renner, 80, of 614 Sycamore Circle died Saturday, Sept. 14, 1996, at St. Francis Medical Center.

He was born June 15, 1916, in St. Louis, son of the late Frank and Theckla I. Hurtig Renner.

He married Rosemary Boos on June 24, 1940. She survives.

Renner worked in the advertising department of the Southeast Missourian from 1949 to 1954, then went to Panama City, Fla., where he was the advertising manager for the Panama City Herald. He later became publisher of two newspapers in the John Berry Newspapers group.

He was a veteran of World War II and served in the U.S. Navy. He was a life member of VFW Post 3838 and had served as a volunteer at St. Francis Medical Center for eight years.

He is survived by a son, Roger, of Middletown, Ohio; a daughter, Suzane R. Dell of Fayetteville, Ga.; a stepsister, June Alice Smith of Haines City, Fla.; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Chapel. VFW Post 3838 will perform graveside rites Monday at 1:30 pm. at Memorial Park Cemetery.
