Russell Joseph "Russ" Fredrick, 86, of Cape Girardeau died Tuesday, July 19, 2011, at Saint Francis Medical Center.

He was born Jan. 5, 1925, in Dutchtown, to Martin and Nellie Miller Fredrick. He and Dorothy M. Wolfbrandt Bane were married Feb. 5, 1951, at Desloge, Mo. She died Feb. 26, 1997.

Fredrick was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Marine Corps.

He was a member of VFW Post 3838 and Mason O. Yarborough Detachment Marine Corps League.

Russell was employed by Southwestern Bell from 1946 to 1982 and retired as manager of OSP maintenance. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Council 1111.

Survivors include two daughters, Susan Taylor (Brian) of Belleville, Ill., Lea Ann McLafferty (Tom) of Ballwin, Mo.; three sons, William "Bill" Bane Jr. (Judy) of Cape Girardeau, Terrance "Terry" Fredrick (Terri Lynn) of Springfield, Mo., Richard "Rick" Fredrick (Janet) of Scottsdale, Ariz.; a sister, Melva Levy of Millstadt, Ill.; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, five sisters and three brothers.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home. Parish prayers will be at 7, followed immediately by Knights of Columbus rosary.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Vincent's Church, with the Rev. David Hulshof officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, with full military honors by Missouri Honors Team.

Memorial contributions may be given to American Heart Association or American Lung Association.
