Rusby Gene Adams, 82, of Jackson died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2006, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau. He was born Aug. 5, 1924, at Pocahontas, son of Archie and Elsie Moore Adams. He and Mildred Sebastian were married Oct. 31, 1947. She died Nov. 10, 1995. He married Melvadean Kiefer Aug. 5, 1999...

Rusby Gene Adams, 82, of Jackson died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2006, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Aug. 5, 1924, at Pocahontas, son of Archie and Elsie Moore Adams. He and Mildred Sebastian were married Oct. 31, 1947. She died Nov. 10, 1995. He married Melvadean Kiefer Aug. 5, 1999.

Adams served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He worked in delivery at the former Jackson Oil Co. for many years. He then worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Jackson where he began as a carrier, was a clerk and retired as assistant postmaster in 1986.

Adams was a longtime member of Emanuel United Church of Christ in Jackson and formerly served on the church council. He was a member of the American Legion Post 158 in Jackson and the Cape Girardeau VFW Post 3838.

Survivors include his wife of Jackson; two sons, Rusby Gene Adams Jr. of New Albany, Ohio, Blaine Adams of Jackson; three daughters, Brenda Kiefer of Benton, Ill., Pat Schwent of Jackson, Debbie Nelson of Cape Coral, Fla.; two brothers, John Adams of Jackson, Don Adams of Cape Girardeau; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers.

Friends may call from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Sam Roethemeyer officiating. Interment will be in Russell Heights Cemetery.
