SIKESTON -- Ruel J. Swank, 98, of Sikeston, formerly of Charleston, died Monday, June 5, 1995, at Sikeston Convalescent Center.
He was born Nov. 10, 1896, in the Lusk Chapel community, son of Ben M. and Mahala Mosley Swank. He and Edna Marie Bounds were married Nov. 1, 1936. She died Oct. 28, 1991.
Swank was a construction engineer 20 years with Missouri State Highway Department, and then assisted U.S. engineers during World War II. He then farmed until retiring in 1973.
He was a member of Charleston United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge, American Legion and VFW. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War I.
Survivors include a brother, Ben Swank of Lee's Summit.
He was preceded in death by five brothers.
Friends may call at McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston from 5-8 p.m. today.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Charleston United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Richard Combs officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery.
