COBDEN, Ill. -- Rudolph R. Bittle, 79, of Cobden, died Thurday, Sept. 15, 1994, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

He was born Feb. 10, 1915, in Alto Pass, son of Marshall and Claudia McKinney Bittle. He and Marjorie D. Allen were married June 29, 1935, in Makanda.

Bittle was a retired businessman, former member of Cobden Volunteer Fire Department and of the Cobden Village Board.

He was a member and deacon of First Baptist Church, and member of American Legion Post 259, both in Cobden, and retired member of Teamsters Union in West Frankfort. He served with the U.S. Army in the South Pacific during World War II.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Wilma Schwab of Litchfield, Virginia Flamm of Cobden; a son, Don Bittle of Marion; a brother, Willard Bittle of Millport, Ala.; three sisters, Ara Dallas of Cobden, Imogene Petty of Carbondale, Alma Turner of Chester; six grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, two brothers, a sister and three grandchildren.

Friends may call at Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Cobden from 6-9 p.m. today.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Dewayne Taylor officiating. Burial will be in Cobden Cemetery with military graveside rites by American Legion Post 259.
