Ruby Scherer

Ruby Louise Scherer, 88, of Scott City died Saturday, Nov. 4, 2017, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.

She was born Feb. 13, 1929, in Scott City, the daughter of Arthur H.G. and Ella Ida Bretzel Roth. She married F. M. Scherer on Feb. 18, 1950, in Fornfelt. He preceded her in death Jan. 10, 2004.

Ruby worked as a switchboard operator for Southwestern Bell and Saint Francis Medical Center. She was a member of Eisleben Lutheran Church in Scott City.

Survivors include a son-in-law, Stephen Doss of Farmington, Missouri; a nephew, Arthur Roth of Eldon, Missouri; and a niece, Francis Pernell of Lebanon, Missouri.

She also was preceded in death by her daughter, Martha Doss, on July 28, 2012; and three brothers, Marvin, Arvel and Harold Roth.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City and from 9 a.m. until service time Wednesday at Eisleben Lutheran Church.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with the Rev. Marty Hasz officiating. Burial will follow in Lightner Memorial Cemetery in Scott City.
