Ruby Lee Rice, 98, of Cape Girardeau died Monday, April 18, 2022, in San Marcos, Texas.
She was born March 25, 1924, in Birch Tree, Missouri, to Chester Clyde and Eula Mae Lemons Spencer. She and Daniel Paul Rice were married May 10, 1946, at St. Clair. They enjoyed 70 years of marriage until death parted them in 2016. Shortly thereafter, she moved to Texas to be nearer her children.
She graduated with honors from Southwest Missouri State Teachers College in July 1944, earning a bachelor of science degree in education and a certificate in music. She taught business subjects at St. Clair (Missouri) High School and at Rolla (Missouri) High School.
Ruby was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Cape Girardeau for over 50 years and served in the Southeast Hospital Auxiliary.
She is survived by their three sons, Donald E. (Sandra) Rice of Houston, Texas; David A. (Lynn) Rice of Richardson, Texas; and Kenneth O. (Jackie) Rice of Wimberley, Texas; five grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
Memorial contributions may be given to College of the Ozarks in Point Lookout, Missouri, or Southeast Hospice.
