Ruby Phillips

God sent his best angel for our mother, Ruby A. Dutcher Phillips, 80, of Cape Girardeau Monday, Oct. 29, 2007, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.

She was born March 15, 1927, in Greeley County, Neb., daughter of Fremont H. and Gertrude E. Knutzen Dutcher. She and Hal Cole Phillips were married June 14, 1947, in St. Louis. He died March 5, 1962.

Phillips attended business college in Sedalia, Mo. She had been a secretary at Viking Freight Co. in St. Louis. She retired after working for Cinnamon Bear Day Care where she was known as "Miss Ruby".

She is survived by three sons, Stephen Flynn Phillips of Beaverton, Ore., Hal Cole Phillips Jr. of Cape Girardeau, Gregory Lyle Phillips of Scott City; seven daughters, Peggy Lorraine Seiler of Morgantown, Ky., Beverly Colleen Moreland of Jonesboro, Ill., Merry Lee Johnson of Sanford, N.C., Carla Jean Barker of East Cape Girardeau, Ill., Sheila Kay Phillips of Cape Girardeau, Lisa Beth Kail of Jackson, Kathleen Ann McGill of Cape Girardeau; a brother, Wilson Dutcher of Fresno, Calif.; a sister, Edith Frazier of Sturgeon, Mo.; 16 grandchildren, Rodney, Stephanie, Mark, Mindy, Nickie, Tara, Amanda, Dustin, Erin, Adam, Blake, Shelley, Ashton, Daniel, Dana and Tiffany; and 20 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers and three sisters.

Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

The service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Mike Parry officiating. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to charity of choice.
