RUBY OWENS

SIKESTON -- Funeral service for Ruby V. Mercer Owens of Sikeston will be held at 2 p.m. today at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Ted Winberley will officiate, with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Owens, 83, died Sunday, April 28, 1996, at Missouri Delta Medical Center.

She was born Oct. 18, 1912, in Denmark, Miss., daughter of Ollie Howard and Dora "Edna" Watts Barron. She first married Allen Mercer in 1928, who died in 1956. She and Welton C. Owens were married Sept. 30, 1961, in Las Vegas, Nev. He died June 25, 1981.

Owens had owned the Mercer-Young IGA in Sikeston, and had been a licensed practical nurse at Missouri Delta Medical Center.

Survivors include two sons, Allen and Jackie Mercer of Sikeston; a daughter, Jolene Tyrone of Sikeston; four brothers, J.C., Leslie and Gene Barron of California, Howard Barron of Kennett; a sister, Vera Ward of Milner, Ga.; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a grandson and three brothers.
